Deleting removes the account at once: your sign-in, your email address, your username, your word file with its lists, settings and review history, and your place on the product-updates list. Nothing of them is kept, and there is no undo. It takes your password and a moment, in the app or on the website.
In the app on iPhone or iPad
Open the Account tab. Signed in, press Delete account…, type your password, or confirm with Apple if that is how you signed in, and press Delete my account. The app goes back to the starter file.
On the website
Sign in and press Account at the top of the page. In the Delete account box press Delete my account…, confirm with your password, or with Apple or Google if that is how you signed in, and press Delete my account. This browser goes back to the starter file.
The confirmation is there because Firebase, which runs the accounts, asks for a fresh sign-in before an account can go; the deletion follows straight after it.
By email
Cannot sign in, or would rather not do it yourself? Write to fkarim@basilicalabs.ai from the address on the account, with the subject Delete my account. The account is deleted by hand within 30 days, with the same result, and the reply says when it is done.
What goes, and what does not
- Deleted at once: the sign-in itself, your email address and your username, which is released for anyone to take; your word file with its lists and settings; your daily review counts and the log of your reviews; and your entry on the product-updates list, if you asked for them.
- Never part of the account: the dictionaries, which come with the app and the site, and your searches, which never leave your device. The app’s usage counts were never tied to the account; Google deletes their detailed records after two months.
- Kept on your devices only: the copy of your file on each device. The one you delete from goes back to the starter file; another device you used keeps its copy until you delete the app there or clear the site’s data in that browser.
- If you signed in with Apple: the authorisation is revoked as the account goes, so Vocab Cards leaves the list at Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple; a Hide My Email relay address stops with it.
- If you signed in with Google: Vocab Cards also appears among the third-party connections of your Google Account, where you can remove it at myaccount.google.com/connections.
